MG MGF Technical - Digital display
Can someone tell me if you can replace the old speedmeter for the new type with the digital display in it, greeting maurice
MP Maurice
Maurice, not sure, but I believe you'll need as well the new ABS modulator to provide the required speed signal.
Dieter Koennecke
Hi Maurice, the transmitter unit is located in the gearbox at the same place as the original speedo cable outlet. It is probably possible to do the swap but is it really worth it ? Problems with extra electrical cables etc. as there are NO spares going from front to rear. Whats the problem with the old mechanical unit ? Regards , Carl. |

I bet it has a wobbling needle! Technical problems aside, the aesthetic problems are obvious: the original dials are cream and the digital speedos are silver... Replace one, and you'd need to replace the whole lot :o( Hey, at least the TF heralds the welcome return of the MG logo on the rev - counter.

Rob that wobbling needle, is this easy to fix? I had for ages, and my dash is coming off in 2 months time, if i can I wanna fix it fixed as well.
Hanah Kim
Wobbly needle usually indicates that the speedo cable has been bent to too an acute an angle, so the inner cable is rubbing/catching on the outer protective sheath. Solution is to make all the turns in the cable curve with as wide a radius as possible. I can't guarantee that this will work 100% - but it should make a significant improvement :o)

I thought the wobbling needle on my f was a "feature" where is the cable routed?
Kingsley
Hi Kingsley, The tightest turns are found behind the black plastic shroud under the front bonnet. The cable runs from the gearbox sender, under the car and then into the under-bonnet area and enters the rear of the instrument.

Okay thanks yes my speed needle is wobbling grrr.. but i still love her.
MP Maurice
Iam pleased iam not alone with the wobbly needle thing. I thought it was just mine.
