MG MGF Technical - DIY hydragas pump

A device to pump up the hydragas system can be made of a grease gun, a non-return valve and a scrader valve connector - according to a Swedish website.

Make sure it is a clean grease gun!

Seems a really good idea, but is a grease gun really going to be able to give 400psi?

Hi All,
no - the shown grease-gun will not be OK for our cars. Tried that before I finally made one with a hydraulic jack. (The one on Dieters site.) The grease-gun will most probably be fine for old Minis etc.... The reason for my failure with the attempts with the grease-gun was that the original Hydragas fluid is like water and the pump section didn´t cope with that thin medium.

PS. If You want a horror picture ; Have a look at the totally rusted Hydragas can on Dieters site ;)
Do we REALLY want to know how the system looks like inside after a few years ??

Yes, Carl you´re right.

With a hidraulic jack is possible to make one. I've seen it before. Works great.

Jon, that detail looks useful as connection valve !!! though, I don't understand :) Please explain. 450 NKR is 61 EURO. :) I want one of that.

Mine doesn't work currently, cause one of the aquarius X-joints got broken. I need to buy a new for 50 Cent. The aquarius joints don't withstand the spirit in the fluid.
As well I'd underline what Carl said regarding the fluid can. Keep the stuff in plastic cans or it silent rusts away ;).

Apparently the schräder valve connection is something that is used with pneumatic or hydraulic equipment and is available in specialist stores.

Blame me !! Schrader Valve, that's it !!

The cheap clip on connection joints from hand pumps or foot pumps will just shoot off under the 35 Bar high pressure.

The only problem for MGF hydragas connection is that you need a joint to bolt on AND it must have a small needle to push down the valve pin for release of pressure. The same tap as on that picture.

Should be familiar as well at Aircon and refrigirator filling workshops. (R134a stuff)
