MG MGF Technical - DIY Low Water Level Detector
Today I've finished the prototype of my Low Water Level Detector and thought I would share it :) I've started this one year ago when I read about it on AP Tony's website. I've made an LED in the spare warning light of the dashboard. With some inmagnination it even looks like a small water tank ;) I've build the schematic round a PIC micro controller. I've written the software in "JAL" Anyway, on to the results: Pic 1, warning light ON http://dennis.core-lan.nl/mgf/albums/album65/IMG_0309.sized.jpg It's a little brighter than all the other lights but there's not much in it. Pic 2, the home-brew controller box :) http://dennis.core-lan.nl/mgf/albums/album65/IMG_0312.sized.jpg Movie 1, Switching ignition on with no alarm http://www.klaproosberg.nl/MVI_0310.AVI Movie 2, Low water level detected for about 20 seconds* http://www.klaproosberg.nl/MVI_0307.AVI * the blinking seems random but this is because is blinks with about 5Hz and the camera has a low frame capture rate. IRL it's a 100% constant 5Hz ;) |

Nice work Sander! Interesting to note that you're using the same warning light as I am for my B&G warning system! LOL Hope you are planning to put your build instructions on line? |

Thanks Rob, Don't know if instructions will be very usefull in this case ? I've used the micro which is cheap if you allready have the programmer/devellopment kit but if you have to buy everything a B&G kit would be allot cheaper ? |

Sander, looks good :) I'm still stuck on a direct beeper connection to the sensor ;) A circuit with PIC12F629 was made by a german recently and I still need to get it in. Rob, the place you used is quite known public. I go for the same, of course. This is some pics of getting the mechanical stuff to the car without water loss. http://www.mgfcar.de/expansion_tank/level_sensor.htm |

>> Rob, the place you used is quite known public. I go for the same, of course. << You're right of course Dieter - the catalyst over heat symbol is the logical choice for the warning light on Mk1 MGFs. I wonder which lamp would be used on Mk2s and TFs? >> A circuit with PIC12F629 was made by a german recently and I still need to get it in. << Look forward to reading about it soon! :o) |

That is a very nice job Sander. Give us instructions :) |
