MG MGF Technical - Do I Need Lowering Knuckles

I have a Trophy 160 and i'm considering a Techspeed suspension package. I'm just a bit confused as to whether i need the lowering knuckles because the Trophy is already lower than the standard F. Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Rich,

The Trophy indeed already has shorter knuckles, plus different hydragas units, additional flow restrictors in the hydragas connections, and different shocks. Whether the knuckles are the same as the Techspeed ones I couldn't say. Best speak to Roy. The Trophy shocks aren't much better than the standard items IMHO, so certainly worth considering the Bilsteins.

>The Trophy indeed already has shorter knuckles,

To be correct, it hasn't different knuckles. The hydragas units provide the shorter measure.
Dieter

Techspeed machine the standard knuckles - so there's nothing to worry about :o) From all the reports, the Trophy responds extremely well to the Bilsteins :o)

I have the Tech-speed suspension on my Trophy and when it was fitted I was told the Trophy knuckles were shorter so they weren't changed or machined. I was also at Tech-speed when Jerry Flint had his Trophy done and they weren't changed either.
Blue Pocket Rocket

RHF100070 is the only available knuckle joint, beside of the shorter from aftermarket.
Of course there's no reason to change from equal to equal. :)

May be MGR *forgot* to include the other Trophy knuckle joint to the parts catalogue ?
That's strange
;-)

However, the hydragas unit (rear) cones I compared myself in last year were different angles for another spring characteristic and they were 2mm shorter then the standard cones.

Hi guys
Thanks for the replies. So, i don't need the knuckles changing, which i assume keeps the price more respectable. Next question is, how much better is it with the upgrade? Will it corner significantly better or should i not bother modifying and get an Elise instead

Oh no....
I think you are on the wrong car. There's nothing to compare with the Elise IMO.
Dieter

It's a massive improvement on the standard MGF. But I am not quite so well positioned to comment from a Trophy owner's perspective - but I have heard nothing but positive comments from those whose cars have been fettled.

BTW no, to compare to an Elise, you have to shed 4-500 kg of weight. As Dieter says, there's not much that compares to an Elise. And then there are Caterhams... It all depends on what kind of car you're looking to own?
