MG MGF Technical - do the MGF's compressor have substitute?

Hello,
My compressor can not work .
Turn On A/C that is not any reaction.
Can The compressor to break ?
If The compressor is broken , How do I repair it ?
Or do the MGF's compressor have substitute?

Thank you

My guess is the refrigerant has leaked out so might get it checked out by any a/c engineer. If you need a replacement unit, the Japanese "F" had a/c fitted as standard, so you might try that direction.

Otherwise, the compressors are all quit similar, so it should be possible to get your own unit refurbished locally.

George,

indeed the compressor can break. Even it is rare. It's almost other failures that cause the A/C none working.

I cannot help with repair hints. Never heard of substitutes from other cars also.
This link is all I have regarding the EPC and part numbers

Unfortunately a new compressor is sowhat of expensive. :(

if it's like the one on a Rover 420 from about 1998, Sanyo do one as that's what I had mine replaced with.

Hi,

The compressor will not run if there is a leak. There is a pressure switch which stops it.

A leak could be anywhere but one of the most likely problem is the condenser, like a thin radiator at the front of the car, behind the front bumper. They are black powder coated but it cracks and the aluminium corrodes (usually on the side tube part)and eventually leaks. This can be tested by having a dye injected during regassing, or by a sniffer which monitors for the presence of the gas. You might find that regassing works for a short time (proving the compressor is working). Then find the leak (remembering that on the MGF, the pipes to the compresor run underneath the car and could be damaged by grounding).
