MG MGF Technical - Does my warranty cover this?
Question: Whilst driving home and encountering traffic, my MGF began to overheat (only got to 3/4's temperature) On stopping, the fans did not start. On checking, the Coolant tank was completely empty! Called the AA. The AA's diagnosis was that the faulty operation of the Fans caused the overheat, which caused higher Pressure & Temperature in the Coolant Pipes subsequently causing a leak thro the pipes. I bought my R reg MGF from the Dealer in March with 1 years warranty. Does this warranty cover any of these faults? Has anyone else encountered this problem? My car is with the dealer at the moment so I will report the outcome once I have been informed by them. :( |

It should do - if they say no ask them to show you why not - then take it to your local trading standards officer! Ted |

Mike, Sounds like you managed to avoid more serious damage by stopping early and calling the AA. Good move. Completely agree with Ted. This should be covered under warranty. If there's any dispute, politely but firmly stand your ground and insist the work is carried out under warranty. Hope you get a satisfactory result. Jim |

Had this happen to me recently, thought the fan as it didnt seem to be cutting in even though the temp guage was on three quarters.i ut this down to a faulty fan.i put the heaters on full in the car to take some of the heat away from the engine and the heat returned to normal pretty quick. When i checked the fuse on the fan, it was fine, but when i checked the coolant in tank under the grille in the back it was empty. When i topped this up it seemed to cure the problem and the fan seems to be working now, I can undrstand the overheating due to not enough coolant but why the fan didnt cut in i'll never know. GC |

Mike, I would imagine that your warranty covers the failure of the fan to come on ie they will pay for the fan or sensor to be repaired if faulty but will not pay for any consequential damage caused by overheating. This happened to me. Headgasket failed, water ran out, engine overheated, head warped, new head required. Warranty paid for new head gasket to be fitted but not the new head! Bruce |

Hi Mike Get the fan switch ect. checked out now! You should be ok under warranty, Im sure a Quick check is preferable to a head gasket failure and or top end melt down. I know from personal experience. |
