MG MGF Technical - electric hood operation

Have acquired a 2001 F with 'auto' hood but did not receive a briefing from previous owner how to retract, tech manual does not address the operation either.
Hood starts to retract but 'stalls' about 20 cm back along travel.
Local agent's fix also with no result.
Would appreciate assistance, step by step.
Regards.

Roger,

This was a retro-fit which never worked properly.

The mechanism is not man enough for the job.

Sorry couldn't be of more help.

Join the BBS. It costs nothing.
Look in the Archives and you will find all the problems with the Power Hood and also some of the modifications that have been done to fix them.

If it's just stopping it's likely that the hood itself is jamming - it would also jam if it were manual. Look here under "Lock-Ups" for a description of the problem:

And here for a fix using additional elasticated straps attached to the hood frame:

PS Welcome to the MGF world.

Got a message from Roger.

Apparently, you have to have your foot on the brake for the electric hood to operate.

Would recommend wwww.google.com and the search for
"MGF Powerhood"
;-)

All on site including a pdf file of the operating instructions.

Roger,
please notice the additional Hints from Ton Maathius regarding the improvements for the side hinge brackets.
I've seen them myself sadly bend away after any minor distortion at the hood mechanics.
Click all links on site and download.

Tks all for the assistance, hood working OK but just may limit the number of cycles to possibly elongate serviceability.
