MG MGF Technical - Engine Bay Fan

Just a quick question. I've recently have my engine management system chip wiped and re-uploaded, with the latest version (via Testbook). The car is running fine, its just after a bit of quick driving, and I switch the car off (having let it idle a bit), within a minute the engine bay fan starts and then runs for up to 8 to 10 minutes. Is this now normal for later cars ?
Neil Sutton

My 1998 vvc does that as well so I guess its normal. When the car stops there is no more airflow to cool the engine bay so the fan will kick in if it is hot. There is a max time it will run after the car is switched off. I have never heard of earlier cars being different though and I did not know that you can reflash the ems from testbook.

Thanks. Re the upload, I watched it be done, a CD was put into the Testbook laptop that was connected to the car, and after about 20+ minutes the download was finished and the car worked properly !!!
Neil Sutton

Yep my my2000 does the same, fan on after switching off. The alternator drive belt is busy disintegrating though, need to get some stands.

Spyros, you can only re-flash MEMS3 - older versions (1.9 and 2J) don't have this facility.

Neil, the fan behaviour is normal - and as it should be. :o)
Rob Bell

Thanks Rob didn't know that.

Thanks, thats OK. I was a bit weird to get back from Silverstone in the rain, un-pack the car, go inside the house, then the fans started....
Neil Sutton

Do I take it, as a TF virgin, that you can flash the MEMS unit? I've got an 02 135, is it worth the trouble/ expense of doing this? What additional features could I be missing? ( Don't say HGF!!!)
Jerry Herbert

Jerry, I only had my 2001 car done as it seemed to be down on power, and this was one of the things the garage tried to sort the problem.
Neil Sutton

There have been some software updates - I think that JohnP knows more about this?
