MG MGF Technical - Errrrr Coolant Leak.
I'll bet somebody may have had this happen to them... Coolant Leak between the 3rd and 4th injectors. Didn't overheat, coolant leaked out overnight onto the driveway. Difficult to see but Looks like Head gasket or Inlet manifold gasket. Anybody have an idea which one is the likely suspect??? Thanks. |

>> Coolant Leak between the 3rd and 4th injectors. << Odd, inlet manifold gasket leaks tend to occur on the very outside of the inlet manifold (this is where the return pipe to the expansion tank is situated). Which leaves HGF or something else. HGF's tend to occur (but not always) on the other side of the block, above the alternator. SF <--- Puzzled |

Leaks on outer parts of gasket and runs along bottom edge of manifold and drips off . Mike |

Mike So do you think that it's the Headgasket that's failed then ? No water in the oil and coolant showed no signs of oil contamination when checked last... Thanks. |

Mark, HG probably OK just get the Inlet manifold gasket changed. As discuss here not really a DIY job, also shop around for a good price but ensure that the garage carrying out the work knows the correct procedure for bleeding the coolant system, it might be worth paying a few more quid to ensure that. Thanks everyone for your comments, Turned out to be inlet manifold gasket. Garage has charged 4.5 hrs Labour including Diagnosis. Bugger!! If it had been the Head Gasket it would of been covered under warranty... |

Curious. Why wouldn't the inlet manifold gasket be covered under the warrantee Mark? SF |

Standard Warranty from Warranty Direct, Not MGR Warranty... Garage that carried out the work originaly expected Head Gasket Failure as they have done several... The Technician who worked on my MG said working on the Engine of the MGF is a bit like Wallpapering your Hall Ceiling Through the Letterbox. This i Laughed at, The Final Bill i Didn't....... Mark. |
