MG MGF Technical - Even louder cracking noise?

Rob Bell
I think your explanation of my fault seems the most likeliest?
I'm not interested in a suspension upgrade for the missus just yet, just want to stop the damn cracking noise when we come out of the drive way onto the road (Bit of a hump)
It sounds nasty but like i said before she passed two MOT's with this noise and my local garage could not find a fault either???
Very strange?
The F drives and handles perfect as she always has but it's just that cracking noise???

As far as I remember, I had a cracking sound from the cross member bar. It's like small "crack-crack" noise on uneven roads mainly or when passing on road bumps. I solved it with a U-Clamp on each side of the bar. I think Dieter has pictures on his website http://www.mgfcar.de/index.htm
look for "cross member bar"

Tony, as I mentioned before - I had that same noise - and the car handled perfectly. But when the subframe bushes were upgraded, the noise went. Whether something else was changed or tightened at the time, I don't know - but it seems to point in the general direction of a suspension bolt or bush being at fault.

Thanks Rob / Jerome

Try wriggling the 'cradle' for the spare wheel (grip the top of the spare tyre and push it back and forth). I discovered that this was creating an annoying clunking noise in my 'F when going over bumps, seemingly due to flexing at the top of the 'cradle' near to the panel that runs across the top of the radiator.

In the past, tightening up the large plastic nut that holds in the spare wheel has worked, as it alters the tension on the panel on which the spare wheel lies.
