MG MGF Technical - EVO Tyre Test
| Interesting report in this months EVO ... Contenders were : Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 Toyo Proxes T1-S Avon ZZ3 Dunlop SP Sport 9000 Bridgestone S-03 Pirelli P7000 Michelin Pilot Sport Continental ContiSportContact And the final standings were ... 8. Avon 7. Bridgestone 6. Dunlop 5. Michelin 4. Pirelli 3. Toyo 2. Continental 1. Goodyears Its a pretty good article. Lots of different tests by 3 different drivers using a Focus ST170 at ... Goodyears test circuit - Mireval in France (unfair advantage??). The Goodyears and Continentals were very close. Are the ContiSports the same used on th TF ... guess MGR got it right this time ... | "Are the ContiSports the same used on th TF ... guess MGR got it right this time ..." They certainly got it wrong with the NCT3's. I'm using an MGF 1.8i coutesy car whilst my TF 160 is in the dealers. I'd forgotton how truly crap the NCT's are, fidgety and unpredictable in the wet, absolute rubbish - insane with a car that's got a wicked oversteer characteristic. The suspension is a bit high too (385mm) and it wanders on the motorway- oh the joy of the MGF - I want my TF back! I thought the article was good too. |

| Spectacular fall from grace for Bridgestone then - previously the now obsolete S-02 was THE tyre of choice - beating the excellent GY F1. Times have changed - and it seems to confirm the track day pit lane rumours that the S-03 is inferior to its predicessor. When the time comes to replace my S-02s, I'll be getting F1s! |

| Have you seen the ads for the new F1's ? They are mean looking tyres with their 'Slick Tyre' Technology... Cheers Kieren |

| Important point to remember is the particular version of the F1's - "GS-D3" as opposed to the "GS-D2" which were the ones we all compared the S-02's to. I'd recommend all those interested in the charactersistics of the tyres should have a read. Don't just confine your analysis to the summing up boxes ... e.g. for the Bridgestones I picked up the following hidden in the text ... "the Bridgestones had much stiffer sidewalls, accounting for fine grip on the exit and making it possible to get the power down early. That would account for the poor times and handling in the wet". | Unless Focii are rear wheel drive over there, I'm not sure there is a good correlation for how the tires might be on F's. |

| Fair point George. The only way to be really sure which tyres work best on an F is to try them on an F (or TF for that matter). The suspension design and mechanical layout does make extrapolation tricky. |
