MG MGF Technical - Exhaust grille

Having great difficulty in accessing the archives so... can anyone help with advice on fitting a grille at the back which covers the exhaust heat shield. Purchased it in a moment of madness this morning from a Main Dealer. No instuctions so I am still looking at it. Hope that it doesn't entail removing the bumper.

This might help

Thanks for the info. Should have mentioned that it is a TF and the grille has all the fittings. So, how do I remove the rear bumper. If it is to difficult I might take the grille back and see if I can exchange it for a nodding dog or a His and Hers windscreen sticker.

Not a TF but close enough?

Hi W.J.

I managed to push the grill up far enough to "jam" it securely, and then screw it to the bottom inside edge of the rear bumper as described by Scarlet.

I also trimmed it as suggested and removed sharp bits for safety.

Looks the dogs!

I have managed to fit the Rover made rear grille (cost £32) to the TF without removing the bumper. I have lost most of the skin on the backs of both hands and wonder if it's worth it as half of it is obscured by the number plate.
1. Saw from the top of the grille to the opening for the towing eye. The cut won't be seen when fitted.
2. Remove the 4 bolts securing the heat shield for that important extra room to work.
3. Identify the 10 flimsy plastic fitting brackets on the inside of the bumper to which the grille is to be attached. Insert 1.5 inch long bolts (facing the front of the car)through at least 2 of the top 5 brackets (I used the 3 inner ones. Tried sticking them with Supa glu but it didn't work.
4. Push the grille up from below and behind the bumper pulling the cut bit apart to clear the towing eye.
5. The difficult bit. Align the bolts already in place with the top brackets on the grille, push through and put on the nuts but do not tighten.
6. Align the bottom brackets (I used the middle and 2 outer only) with the grille and fully tighten with 1 inch long bolts (facing the rear) and nuts. Then fully tighten the top bolts - I held the bolt with pliers and used a long piece of wood to tighten the nuts.
7. Replace the bolts in the heatshield.
