MG MGF Technical - Exhaust pipe defect, power loss?
Hi, I have a defect exhaust(noise) and i'm experience a power loss. Is this common with a defect exhaust pipe on a MGF? Regards, Dide |

A faulty exhaust pipe will give you power loss on any properly designed system. |

But it is al lot power loss? If it's in higher gear I can't get it to it's 7000 rpm Thanks, Dide |

Greater power loss at greater RPM. What is your fault? |
Will Munns |
That's my problem! "Greater power loss at greater RPM". And it's not a big leak in the exhaust, a small not so noisy one. I don't know where in the system. I'm relieved if that's all. Thanks, Dide |

I've never got to 7000 rpm in top gear ! I think that in my 1.8i that would be about 155mph |

I had a leak from the head-exhaust manifold gasket when I last went up to Emerald. The car lost about 10 bhp and 10 lb.ft torque, and no, the leak was not substantial. Goes someway to show how important exhaust gas scavenging is to engine power and torque! |
