MG MGF Technical - Exhaust Rattle
Help... my F's exhaust has gained a rattle from the exhaust area. There is no obvious corrosion (I made the other half get under the car)... it appear to sit correctly on the mounting rubbers, but, when shaking the exhaust by the tail pipe it does replicate the noise. I don't want to have to do the typical "girly" turning up of the radio for much longer, it just doesn't help with the posing... Do catalystic convertors rattle? How do you know when the cat is causing a problem? |

Quite offen the cat heat sheild frees itself from the cat on one side, a dab of weld will lock it back in place. Mine just got worse till I found it by the roadside, but it's been fine without. |

Jane, When you're posing, I don't think the blokes would even be listerning to your rattle. :-} You could check the rear main silencer cover (muffler in Aus) cover. It is held on with bent lugs and these do become loose and allow it to rattle, rattle, rattle. In the mean time, play some good load music. LOL Cheers, Branko. |

My old F's exhaust used to rattle and it was down to the internal baffles going, apparently. If you shook the back box you could hear something inside! Tim. |

So that's where the "cat" went! (I'll get my coat) Sam |

Jane, The ceramic contents of my Cat did break up and started to rattle. The onset of this was closely related to going over speed bumps when the car was very low. Peter. |
