MG MGF Technical - Extra 12v socket
Has anyone fitted an extra cigar type output socket in the passenger foot well, so that a GPS unit can be pluged in without having long leads trailing across the center console.Would there be any problems in the fitting? Regads. Richard Hyde |

You could run it in parallel the existing cigar lighter wiring. Satnav load would be negligible compared to the heating element it is designed to support. I fitted an engine start button in the hole where the original cigar lighter is located and fitted a power socket inside the cubby box. |

I 'hard wired' a GPS cable into the power cable that supplies the interior mirror lights. When not in use it winds up neatly behind the mirror and just drops down to the GPS when required. |

Sounds like a good plan Ted may consider that too Sam why did you do that? surely repairing the ignition switch would have been better? |

Bob - hooked up to the supply behind the top rail trim, easy to get at, remove sun visor(s) and the trim is jut clipped on, the cable runs along the rail on drivers side (UK). PS this supply is permanently on. Ted |

Bob, There is nothing wrong with my ignition switch. I added the engine start button as an accessory. :-) |

Thanks for your input. I have managed to remove the ashtray and pushed the cigar lighter up, added a lead and fed that through the passenger side of the footwell acess gained via the triangular panel in th foot well then drilled a small hole at the rear of the fold down lid of the glove box an mounted socket in there on one of the tape box storage units. All is good. Regards. Richard |
