MG MGF Technical - Fan???

I am not the most technical person oin the world in fact probably the opposite so looking for some help reassurance here.

Last night when i arrived home from work i noticed that there was a noise coming from the front of my TF on observation it sounded like a fan. The journey home from work takes me about 15 minutes and the temprature last night was -8.5. Today i checked the radiator coolant level and all seems to be in order. Just looking for some advice from someone who has more expertise than myself or is there a problem with my car.

The fan comes on once the car is stationary to reduce the engine bay temperature..... Perfectly normal.

Enjoy the car and welcome to the BBS

Stu,

The noise coming from the front of your car is the fan/s. If you have been driving slowly for some time they come on to assist the airflow through your radiator. They are switched by a temperature sensor.

Also, as Tim states, there is a fan in the engine compartment which comes on to flush cool air around the engine to keep ancillary components cool, such as alternators, MEMS unit, wiring etc. As this is at the rear I doubt this is what you heard.

If the water level is OK then you have nothing to worry about.

Also if you have air-con then you have two front fans which switch on/off even more.

The fans were definately coming from the front water etc is OK so i take it its nothing to worry about.

Thanks again

I have also noticed that the front fan on my TF kicks in a lot more frequently than it ever did on on the F.

It's possible that the fan is coming on in the cold temperatures that you mention because the radiator is covered in crud from the roads, reducing its cooling ability. So despite the cooler temperature outside, the radiator needs higher airflow to keep the temperature down.....
