MG MGF Technical - FAO Rob Bell

Hello Rob,

I'm writing you because I have a question about an induction kit for a MGF. I saw on your website that you have some experience with airfilters and that you also seems to know the enclosed system that Fabrice Bihay from Belgium made himself.
As you might know, unfortunately, Fabrice had an accident and has written of his MG.

He is selling some the modifications he made to his MG and I'm very interested in his induction system.
But his car was a MPi while my car is a 1999 VVC.
I think that the throttle bodies of both are the same but there is a difference in position of the throttle bodies ?
Fabrice thinks it will work but he is not sure.
What is exactly the difference between a MPi and a VVC ?

The problem I see is the length of the tube between the filter and the throttlebody. If the one of Fabrice is to short, I might not be able to connect it to my throttlebody.
Also the weight of the whole induction system might be causing a sticky throttle valve ?

Thanks in advance for the advice !

No! Is Fabrice OK? :-0

Yes, he's fine ! don't know the exact details about the accident but he is okay.
Geert

Phew, at lease he's alright. Shame about the F though, was a superb motor. :-(

What terrible news about Fabrice! :o( Good to hear that he is okay though, thanks for the info Geert.

Regarding the airbox that Fabrice fitted to his F - it is from the Rover 820, and yes, it should be absolutely fine for your car. Fabrice did some clever mods to it to ensure plenty of cold air arrives at the filter, and is certainly worth getting.

Not seen any RR figures with this airbox on a VVC yet, but on the MPi it seems to work as well as the ITG maxogen, and gives superb results on the 2.5 litre KV6 as well! ;o)

Pass on our sympathies to Fabrice when you see him next - unless he pops onto the site before then?
Rob Bell

thanks Rob,

I will pass your concerns to Fabrice, I'm sure he will tell you more about it.

Now off to the insurance company to see what they think about this modification.
If they don't ask to much more, it looks like I will have a very big permanent grin on my face soon !

Thanks for the advice !

thanks guys !

Yes, I'm fine...
It was a very stupid accident, at low speed in the city traffic.
I was reading some travel instructions and didn't noticed that the car in front of me suddenly slowed down... and I rear ended it :-(
Was doing less than 30 mph, so it didn't hurt anybody hopefully. (my driving style could have led to something really not so friendly !!!)
My F was only damaged from the front : bumper, lights, bonnet, radiator, subframe, 1 wing & inner wing + airbag :-(, but as it was 6 years old, it was a write-off, not by much though. As a result, the insurance got a high bid for the wreck, and it was a better financial solution for me to take the money than too keep the wreck, although I would have enjoyed to undertake the reparations myself. I could never have sold my F for as much I got from the insurance.... butI will miss it for sure.
It will be on the road again : if you are offered a 1997 charcoal MPi, black leather, 86000 km... be aware it has been damaged ! (but it also has a new cat, a full tank of gas ... and a clutch to be soon replaced 8oP)
And some parts of my F have already begun a new life : my 16" wheels and big brakes on Bruno's VVC, my SP exhaust on Bart's MPi...

I'll probably soon buy a collector car (30+ years old) to play with mechanics as I like ;o)
and already got a http://www.cannondale.com/bikes/03/ce/model-3VP3.html as the next dark beauty on wheels after my F ;o))

And why not another F/TF next year ... since I suppose I'm not yet rid of that virus ??!!

I probably will pop here from time to time as I have done from 1998 when I discovered this really helpfull and friendly place.

all the best,
Fabrice

Don't be a stranger Fabrice :o) And hopefully the darkside will drag you back into MG ownership! ;o) Glad that you are okay though - but such a shame that your beautiful car was written off. :o(

All the best

Hi Fabrice - your bike looks as though it has been in the wars as well:-)

Glad to hear that you are OK but sorry about the car.

Hi, Fabrice.

Nice to hear you're OK, but a pitty your F has been written off.

I've taken a look at the cannondale website, and I was thinking that, at least, the bike has the advantage that you won't have to worry about any HGF!!!!!

Best regards
