MG MGF Technical - Fitting a CD-stacker in the boot
I have bought myself a CD-stacker that I plan to install in the boot. I know that the stackers installed by dealers are usually positioned vertically on the left hand side of the front "wall" of the boot. What I wonder is whether I should drill through not only the carpet but also the metal panel itself, just under the engine ECM (would be an expensive mistake to drill straight through that one... :-o ). A stacker being quite heavy, I can't imagine that it would be enough to just hang it onto the carpet. Will there be any issue with water ingress? Should I put some silicone on the bolts to keep it all watertight? I would be grateful for any views and advice! Per |

Helped out refitting a factory CD autochanger Sunday evening, it is bolted through the engine compartment wall. The changer in question also had had the carpet trimmed to provide two flaps to cover the bolt heads when insitu. Quite a neat job (but it takes up too much room in the boot for my liking). SF |

When I bought mine, it had a non-working autochanger in the boot. Took up far too much room for my liking. When I replaced it with a new unit, I fitted it in the glovebox. Details here: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/ Somewhere, I read that the glovebox is only suitable for small changers. Well, what the definition of small is, I don't know as I got my 12 disc changer in there OK. |

Kelvin, Unfortunately, on cars with air conditionning like mine, the glovebox is barely big enough for a pair of gloves... ;-) Per |

Mine was/is held on with self-tappers rather than bolted on. |

I have recently bought an MGF (1996). It has a CD autochanger fitted on the left hand floor of the boot.I have n't paid much attention as to whether it is bolted through the floor or not, but there is significant corrosion on the fixing bolts which appear to go through the carpet. |
