MG MGF Technical - Fitting a soft top

How easy is it to fit a new soft top?

And how much would a dealer charge?

Sorry forgot to add, that a new fitted hard top at a dealer will cost about £1000

I think that you can buy them from Mike Satur, don't know about how to fit them but I guess the guys at www.softtopwindows.co.uk could help.

If the soft top is complete with frame etc then it is held in by 2 bolts and some spring clips. Takes less than 10 mins to remove so I guess about the same to put back - last time I put the soft top back on it rained so I stopped for coffee before finishing later!

?? Fitted hard top ?? It sits on the back of the car, uses the 2 windscreen frame fittings used by the soft top and 2 addition over centre clips just behind your head on either side of the car. Fitting time with 2 people less that 3 minutes.

Yes, it is a piece of cake if the soft top you plan to fit comes complete with frame. Assuming that no adjustments are necessary (when I did this, with a soft top purchased from Dieter, none was necessary), then it is a question of removing the T-bar, removing the softtop retaining bolts, and swapping the whole assemblies over.

See http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/mgf_hood.htm for an idea of what is involved.

Is there anywhere on the web which has a step by step guide to removing and re-attaching the hood as described above?

Mark,

There's also an aticle in the new MGF/TF FAQ on how to remove/fit the hood. See the DIY section under exterior...
