MG MGF Technical - Flashing Yellow Engine Light

This morning, I had a Flashing Yellow Engine Light appear on the dashboard. This only stayed on for about 5 seconds, and then went off the for the rest of the journey (1 hour).

The car had already been running for about 10 mins in traffic.

Any ideas on this.

not 100% sure Steve but could be your ABS warning light coming on,not sure of any other yellow light on dash, not sure why should come on for a short time though, DAVE.

Steve

Looking at your regno can we assume you have a TF? Probably same dash layout but worth looking in Owners handbook.

Hi John,

No, it is actually an F
Steve Green - KX51 NUH

Just looked outside - the only Yellow on my F is the ABS; should come on with ignition, go off after selftest and car starts forward. Should not normally come on during drive - keep an eye on it and refer to dealer for checking if reoccurs.

Could, of course, be something completely different on a TF.

Engine Bay Temp warning light?

SF
Scarlet Fever

Ah, that might be it, have just checked in the manual.

Any ideas what this means though?
Steve Green - KX51 NUH

Means the engine bay is getting very hot... D'OH! (_8(I)

Some things to check:

Fuse for engine bay fan
Engine bay fan is actually coming on
Temperature sensor

SF
Scarlet Fever

Yep. According to the manual of my 97 F the only amber lights are Rear fogs (left) and ABS (right).
engine bay heat is red.

Hi Steve,

If its the warning light on the left hand side above the the abs light then its the engine emmission light (see page 52 of the manual). It comes on when the management system detects an emissions 'fault'. It has happened to me a couple of times but the engine still runs ok. Will mention it when it next goes in for service. It would appear you only need to worry if the light does not go out. I would suspect that the emissions were out for a very short time which caused the light to come on but its ok now.
