MG MGF Technical - Front Bumper Repairs

Hi All

On my way home the other evening a deer decided to end it all by jumping out in front of me. It has left me with two nasty cracks on the bumper on the lower edge and around the indicator light. Sadly the deer was a right off.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can patch the bumper together as a temporary measure. A rough idea of replacement would be useful as I might go the insurance route.

Thanks, Rex

Rex try contacting Mike Satur

I am sure he will have a spare bumper for you.

It's really hard to get parts right now as you know.

You could try Midland MGF of course, a Front bumper in good nick is about £100.

Rex,
if you want to repair the bumper in a temp. fashion then you should stick it together with 'elephant tape'. That is the silver/grey tape that allows you to stick most things together and is about 50 mm wide. It is available from all good Motorist shops.
This will look very scruffy but it will hold everything together until the insurance chough yp.
As for a better repair I would suggest you go along to Halfords as they have started doing repair kits for all sorts of plastics found on cars these days. I have never used one but if it has the Halfords brand name then it can't be too bad I suppose.

But if going for insurance, while settle for a second hand part?

I meant
why settle for a second hand part, sorry.

I have a similar split in the base of my front bumper, took it to 3 different garages for a quote on repair and not one would repair it.

I bought a second hand one from Mike last week, he only had 2 in stock, both Platinum Silver, Cost £129 including VAT and PnP, overnight delivery.
It's at the sprayers now being painted Flame Red. Total cost, bumper and respray, around £200.

Halfords do a fibre glass repair kit which you can use on the inside of the bumper, then apply plastic filler to the outside, smooth down and paint {best leave the painting to the Pro's unless you know what you are doing. Total cost about £110.

If you are going through the insurance a new bumper and paint job will cost around £500.

All these options will give you a nice new nose, its just a matter of funds.
