MG MGF Technical - fuel injection help reqd (NFC)

Got a problem with a friends Espace (don't ask). Uneven lumpy running at low engine speeds. I'm assuming its the injection system, can anyone direct me to a site or BBS where I can be pointed in the right direction??
mike

Be more descriptive, injection systems are mostly the same (like they do the same job with the same sensors)

Thanks for responding so quickly Will, the car ticks over ok, but in town driving is jerky - if you accelerate, the engine "bogs down" momentarily, causing you to lift your foot slightly, then the engine catches, leading to a Kangaroo style effect....

and it smells of petrol around town.

Injection system:

Does it rev slightly high? if so then I would suspect the coolant temp sensor, if you sit it in one place for a long time - does the cooling fan come on (if not then suspect the coolant sensor).

Alternativly it could be the Lamda sensor, you could check the voltage comming off the sensor.

Finally it could be a sh*tty injector, pull the plugs, they may well be a bit black (engine running rich). If one is much blacker than the others then the injector on that is bad.

Note that your sysmptoms also could point at anything in the HT system - worn out plugs/leads/dist cap/rotor arm, It is worth checking these before the lamda sensor.

The first DIY tip is to look for any loose vacuum hoose (sp?). There are a lot of them on a modern engine... Be aware that fuel-smell can be dangerous = fire. If the petrol smell comes from the exthaust take the car to a decent dealer as the catalyst will be destroyed in no-time. If the petrol smell comes from the engine area try to locate it. Non-smokers are fine for such a job , in more than one way ;0)

Others will probably fill in with more info,

BR, Carl.

I have to agree with Will: I had very similar problems before I replaced the rotor arm and dizzy cap on my F... Replace the HT circuit first (which is cheap, and a sensible thing to do in any case, so no money wasted) before going on to check the rest of the fueling system.
