MG MGF Technical - Fuel Jauge

Hi,

When the tank is 100% full, the jauge is as followed :

It is like that since i bought the car. The dealer never fixed it. Any idea of how i could fix it by myself ?

If you have had the car from new it should be fixed under warranty.

I am not sure how the gauge works on the F but if it is a float type the float could be sticking or it could be a faulty fuel gauge sender unit.
Chris

Arnaud - the piccie is very good!

When my F is 100%full the needle points to the next dot on the gauge. I have never seen it at maximum exev when i put in 54 lts once.

JohnP,

Some reported just like you on the French Forum.

Chris,

The car is a MKII and still under warranty. 2 dealers tried to fix the gauge but never succeeded. One told he changed the entire system but i think he lied :(
Maybe i have to go in England to fix it...

Arnaud,

If the car is still under Warranty insist that they fix the gauge, my car is a 98 MPi and when its full the gauge shows full. I agree they have probably been economical with the truth when the said that they have replaced the whole system, if they had then the system would now work as it should.

Go back and tell them you are not satisfied or write to Rover and insist they put right the fault.

I remember on some of the early cars there was a problem with the gauge and it transpired it was to do with the sender unit in the tank not being inserted correctly - don't recall the exact details.

Jep, sender unit mis-aligned.
A real ar*e to adjust, cause at the tanks the lower 'rest surface' is not flush to the upper big hole where the huge thread ring sits.
Not sure whether that got changed later but for it is at the old design tank and it is at tanks from MY 2000.
Craftsman need a kind of strategy to put the sender unit into the tank by turning it in affiliated depth to related turn angle.
At last the funny wire bracket with piece of foam at the end has interference with th tank wall ... and sticks.

This links give an impression without final solution !!

My picture gallery with some pix of the sender unit in the middle.

I'd not try myself. Give to the dealer if you need not pay.
