MG MGF Technical - Fuse #1 blowing
The engine refused to start or even turn over and after a search I found the 30A fuse no.1 had blown. I replaced the fuse and the car started OK. But when I stopped and restarted the engine I found that the fuse had blown again. After three fuses I presume this is not coincidence and I must have a problem somewhere. The third fuse had blown before I turned the engine off. I had a search through the archives but could only find an entry about fuse no.2. Does anyone know what fuse no.1 feeds and where would be a good place to start looking. The car is a 1996 MGF VVC. Simon |

Looking fron the front of the car it is the one on the far left of the row of fuses at the back. Reading from the left the fuses in the row are 30A Engine Management, 30A Engine Management, 15A CDL/Alarm, 10A Hazard Lights, 15A Condensor Fan, 15A Rad Fan, 15A Stop Lights Horn. Unfortunatly there are two marked engine management, it is the one on the left hand end of the row of fuses. Hope this helps. Simon |

The 30A fuse blew in my F after having a new lambda sensor fitted, it turned out that the cable to the lambda sensor melted on the exhaust and blew the fuse. A very simple thing to remedy, worth checking. Tim |

Yes you are right. I grovelled down the back of the engine and sure enough the lambda wire was stuck to the exhaust and the insulation on two of the wires was melted through. Is there any way to mend them or does it have to be a new lambda sensor. I have a feeling that just wrapping a bit of insulation tape round them is not going to work that close to the exhaust.
