MG MGF Technical - Fuse gone... any ideas?
Hi everyone. I was just on my way somewhere, everything ok, when suddenly a fuse blows, the "boot open" light comes on and the radio goes off. The 15 amp fuse has gone, but when I tried to replace it with the spare a spark flew out of the fuse, and blew the replacement. Any ideas what this might be? I could do with a quick fix if poss, as the car isn't at my house. Thanks again |

There is no quick fix. The problem is well docu, emted - normally it is caused by a broken wire in the loom near the left bootlid hinge. Search archive when you have a bit more time. Short term, leave fuse out and drive without a radio. |

Thanks John, Although I'm not sure my car works without the radio.... I'venever tried ;-) |

Could also be the wiring behind the radio chafing on something. Johan |

Is the locking effected. When my boot wire was damaged I recall the radio, interior lights and locking was effected. However the car worked alright so as JohnP said leave fuse out. Tom |

worth looking at some of the older archive links http://www2.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&mode=archiveth&subject=2&subjectar=2&thread=2003081315433526722 http://www2.mgcars.org.uk/cgi-bin/gen5?runprog=mgbbs&mode=archiveth&subject=2&subjectar=2&thread=2001111719450115848 |

Just had exactly the same thing happen. The fault was a wire to the radio chaffing on the bulkhead behind the radio, you could see the scorch marks on the bulkhead with a strong light. The loom had recently been disturbed with the fitment of front fogs. Just relocate it and tape it up. Yours may of course be different but that is somewhere to go. Adrian |
