MG MGF Technical - Glass rear screen modification
Can you replace the section of roof which houses the rear plastic screen with a modified glass version. Obviously the screen would have to be unzipped whenever the roof was down and I believe the window would be smaller but it would be a great modification. Any advice or contacts would be appreciated. Don't think Mike does them anymore, only the complete hoods. www.mikestur.co.uk |

Sorry that should be www.mikesatur.co.uk |

Darren, this was done as a prototype and offered as an alternative to a full glass hood. Although we have one on a customer's car it wasn't met with sufficient demand to warrant the expense of putting it into production, it also has to be unzipped before folding the hood so the advantage over the complete hood isn't as strong. However don't rule out it not being offered again as we are looking at new cost effective version. Mike. |

MGR offers now the X power hood, complete with glass. No need to unzip. Same as Mike Satur's hood? |

In a previous thread, Mike had this to say about the new Rover hood - presumably applies to X Power as well? "Ian/Paul, your dealers are correct all TFs from Nov 03 (80th anniversary models on)will have glass screen hoods very 'similar' to the ones we supply ..except the fabric will be 'stafast' instead of the 'boyriven' fabric we use and will not have the rain gutters as we have specified.. beancounters at work again;-) Rear screen will be identical but may have a MG logo. Probably cost more as well;-)" Can anyone confirm these differences? I have been doing some research as I've cracked my rear screen as well! I suspect they're all made by BAS International (horrible Flash febsite with little info: - http://bas-international.com/) - certainly their name appears on the X-Power installation instructions - but to different specifications. Suppliers I know of are: Mike Satur X-Power MGF Centre (supply X-Power hood) Car Hood Warehouse (http://www.carhood.com/index.html - no more info, anyone got one?) All comments and info appreciated! MIke, It would be a great option over replacing it with another plastic window, price permitting. As for unzipping the window every time you lower the roof I recon I will be doing than anyway if I get a new plastic screen. Having said that I split my screen unzipping it, you can't win. Hope you can come up with a solution quickly because I'm not sure how long I stand duct tape across the window. |
