MG MGF Technical - Good Old Tyre Question
Hi all Just a Quick question after a lot of reseach and advice I have been running Bridgestone so3's on my 99 VVC the only issue is i Brought them at about £100 each about 6 months ago and now they are needing replacing after not a great deal of heavy driving or miles infact less than 5000 miles. I have been running Perelii 6000 on the Front for about 3 months and they have not lost a great deal rubber in fact hardly any. I know that the less rubber being put down they less grip im getting to the road, but my questions are is anyone running 6000 on the rear and it £73 fitted and balenced good for them on 205.50.15's Happy new year Paul L80PMD |

Anyone .? |

Hi Paul I've not tried Pirelli on mine but kept to the original spec Goodyear NCT 5's front and back. The second set are just coming to the end of their life having done 18K. Good grip generally but not good in the wet. So - Looks like I'm in the same boat as you - I don't know what tyre to put on next. It'll be interesting to see how many miles the Pirelli's do and are they any better than the NCT5's?? |

I've not personally tried these P6000 tyres, but a few BBS'ers have, and they were rated equal sixth in our poll (http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/tyres.htm). They seem to perform well, and are hard wearing. Shouldn't cause any handling problems. Perhaps predictably, P7000s were rated even better, if you must go for Pirellis. |

As an aside, i put a pair of Marangoni Zeta ESC tyres on the front of Scarlet last year and although they are shot now, they have covered 31,000 miles! Recorded mileage when tyres were replaced = 69,000 Current recorded mileage = 100,008 This is by far the greatest distance i have ever done on a pair of tyres, the previous record was 22,000 miles (also on the front). Hi thanks for the input, I have been shopping about and got f1 205 50 15 for 59:61 all in p6000 73:00 all in S04 bidgestones 89:00 all in and continental who apperenlty won the which best tyre of the year award for 82 What do you recon |

SO4 Paul? Not aware that Bridgestone had launched a new tyre??? Continental are the current favoured brand at MG for the TF equipped with 15" wheels. Only driven cars in the dry with this tyre, but they felt excellent. Are the F1s you found the obsolete GS-D2 or the now current GS-D3? |

I used P7000s and they were good, but very expensive. I went to Toyo Proxes which were not quite as grippy but were very good for about half the price of the Pirellis, wet or dry. I would say thay are probably at least as good as the P6000s but cheaper and have a more trendy tread pattern. |

Paul, I am running P6000's on the rear i have found them very good. I've had them for about 5000 miles, as long as you check the tyre pressures every few weeks you should not have a problem. I paid £100 each for mine fitted and ur getting them at a good price. |

Sorry rob SO3s but is there a significant diffence in performance? Whats the tread like after 5000 miles as i have covered less than that a managed to scrub the bridgestones. |

my p6000's are fine they look new and i drive up and down to work on motorways everyday. I push the car quite hard somtimes and they are fine. I think they ar a good tyre. I've got them up at 32psi which is wot is recomended for the p6000 and not 28 which is wot the origanals are. |

fwiw my 2 sets of rear S02s did 12k & 13k miles and the current S03s look like doing just a bit better. (They don't have track days - but not an easy life either.) The amazing performance is the RE720s on the front which have lots of tread left after 24k miles. Peter. |

The last time I took my F to get wheels aligned, I discussed tyres with the chap and he said that Pirelli had issued a tech bulletin stating they did not recommend their tyres be fitted to F's. Admitedly this was about a year ago and things may have changed but FWIW....... ER |
