MG MGF Technical - grill on bonnet
Dear all, I have a query re the 2 vents/grills that are in front of the windscreen and before the bonnet. Under the 2 plastic grills seems to be a metal plate or something similar. The one on the passenger side seems to have slipped or broke. I popped the bonnet and saw that access to these seems to be via the plastic covering that has one screw in the middle of it. I tried to undo it but it just spun round. Before I brake something, is this cover supposed to be easy to take off as I want to fix the lose/broken plate back under the plastic grill. Also I took the door panels off the other day to fit new speaker covers and no matter what i do, i,m sure the door panels will not line up properly since i put them back on. All the palstice poppers and screws went back in the right place, but I'm convinced it doesn't look right by the wing mirror covers. Is there a technique for this? Yes I am a technical buffoon. If this wasn't enough I bought 2 aliminium grills to fit under the grill slats in the boot lid. I fixed them with araldite that went all over the place and decides to melt when the engine gets hot! Yes I have had an MGF DIY disasterous week except for the windstop that I had to fit and was cacking myself as I was drilling into the 'T' Bar... Hooraah!! managed to get this right first time. |

Simon, Can't help you with the others but I have done the bonnet grilles, just used clear silicon on each corner, no problem. Adrian |

Refitting the door panels can be a bit tiresome as I found out and wished I had done one at a time so I had a reference! The panel fits under the door mirror bit at the front but the main problem I had was getting the window seal in the right place. Eventually it just sort of slotted in and everything suddenly lined up fine. |

Hi Simon, yes, the front bulkhead shroud panel is a doddle to remove. There are a few plastic nuts that need to be removed. The spinning retainer screw to the heater airbox behind is no particular big deal - that should pop out: the screw works a kind of expanding trim clip. You should be able to pop this out reasonably easily if it is already loose. A little more explanation here (on this otherwise unrelated webpage) - http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/DIY/suspension/howto_lower.htm#with - particularly steps 2 and 3 (also showing Scarlet Fever hard at work!) |

Rob, Cheers for that, I'll have a crack at it. Simon. |
