MG MGF Technical - Handbrake caliper stuck

I have a stuck caliper on one side - do I have any options execpt replacement?

Will, is it really the caliper itself ?

Never had a problem with stuck handbrake, but assume it's more the attached handbrake mechanic which could fail.

the cable is free running, the piston is 'free' as in I can wind it in and it makes no diffrence.

The spring does not pull the lever back into place, and moves only a litte with perswasion of a hammer and drift

I've had this problem on my 99 vvc, tried the MG owners club for an exchange unit but they don't do them yet, Been quoted about £73 for a new one,but I did a temporary fix on it,take off the handbrake cable and the spring,undo the bolt the spring sits on (can be a b---er to shift), remove the rubber washer thats behind the bolt,put the bolt back in place,remove the caliper place it on something horizontal and fill the gap where the washer lives with WD 40 and spend the next half an hour with a spanner on the bolt working it backwards and forwards,keep topping it up with WD,Hopefully should loosen it off mine did,

yep 73 +vat, seems that MGR are the cheapest so far, but about to cal L-suk as it is a lucus part.

MGR are the cheapest, cheaper than:
Partco (also had none in stock)
MGOC (even with members discount)
Lucus (LSUK - even though they supply MGR)

Will,

I had both mine go like that, Got two second hand calipers from MGF centre, excellent condition, £25 each plus VAT and postage. Works perfectly now.
