MG MGF Technical - Handles Strange?

Hello guys,

I'm having a problem with how the car handles lately, I seems to lose the back end around corners at normal speeds and also feels un balanced at the back. Feel snakey at the back.

The only thing I have done lately is change tyre presures, could this be the problem ???

Or it might be the wheel bearings on the way out. I had this.

If it's the wheel bearing, would it make a noise?

Or the rear tie rod bushes etc

Do the obvious and check those tyre pressures - are they correct?

I checked the tyre presures and I have 30 in the back and about 26 in the front..

Is the F really that dependent on tyre presure?

Yes the F is VERY senstive to tyre pressure, after I had my rears changed by ATS they over inflated them (to about 32psi) and the car felt like it was on ice all the time, took them back down to 26 or 28 (can't remember which) and it returned to normal.

For me it was all a matter of taste. I only got that feeling when a Rover dealer gave me the car back in 4x4 mode.....

4X4 Mode???
Mike Gibson

Guys, what's 4x4 mode?
Mike Gibson

I have my tyres (NCT3....) inflated to 30 in the back and have no problems with the handling (or at 28 - the offical number)

4 x 4 mode refers to having the suspension pumped up yoo high. The view wass that it made it look like a 4 x 4...

Cheers

It sounds like it could be the problem ...
Set the pressures back to what they were (but ensure that each side is the same). The figures in the handbook are a guide, you can adjust them to a small degree ( 2psi is not a problem, more than 5 psi may be)
If the back end is sliding, then try dropping the rear tyre pressure by about 2 lbs/psi (sometimes you need to raise the pressure - so just experiment).

If it was the wheel bearing it would make some noise
and most likely would only affect one side.

Until it get's wet anyway (NCT3?).....
