MG MGF Technical - Hard brake & AC blower goen

Driving home with hood and air conditioning on had to brake hard to avoid other car. Immediately the AC blower went off. Later noticed that oil temp clock and radio were also off. May that be a fuse?
(not according to my owner manual). And if so what would be the relation to the braking? Thanks.

BIG HELP REQUIRED!!!

Come on chaps. Please, I am quite new with my F and really need help. Have been checking everything for hours but could not find anything wrong.

As described before had a hard braking and the air conditioner fan went off. Also oil temp needle is gone -but not the clock-, and the radio is silent too. Have checked every fuse and all are good. All the lights are fine. When I connect the blower and press the AC button I can hear the air compressor connecting back at the engine but no air comes out. I can imagine that something moved behind the central console. Question: Is it back there any wire that feeds the oil temp, radio and fan control?

Thanks for your help.

I am not one of the knowledgeable ones, but I am aware of a sharp metal edge immediately behind the radio. Dashboard cabling can become damaged through rubbing on this so suggest you pull the radio out and have a look.

I have had this cabling on my F taped up and covered with flexible plastic cable tubing as it was partially damaged.

Best of Luck

>I am not one of the knowledgeable ones,

As regular to this BBS... I think I'm allowed to say:

This doesn't count here !! :)

The BBS lives from any input as far as a kind of brain did the output.
:o)

Nothing to add to your comment from my side.
The only is:
The easiest access to the space behind the radio is from the top centre vent.
Support at the bottom lead with a thin blade and lift and pull it off.

Dieter - many thanks for your kind remarks. :o)

I visit this Board daily and particularly enjoy the contributions of Rob, Dieter and the many "truly knowledgeable" contributors.

Thank you very much for excellent ideas gentlemen.
Just one thing more: Do any of you have a diagram of the electric wiring behind the console -to understand which wire, what color, to look at. Or where I could get it from.
Grateful indeed

If you look on the UK EBay you can purchase CD's with the complete workshop manual, MG/Rover repair info and electrics for a whole range of MG/Rover cars includung the F all on one CD. The price is about £5 UK.

Fuse 12 under the dash provides power to the radio and clock. Do you have power to the lights? If not then check Link 1 (40Amp) under the bonnet. This provides power to Fuse 12 and the lights fuses.

Sounds as if something shifted when you braked and caused a fuse to blow.

Not sure of your model, year. The above is relevant to a Mk1 MGF.

Why Ebay and illegal copies. ;)

This got no (c)complaints within the last 7 years and it's FOC. including this BBS though.

Riding again!!!. After checking every possible fuse, and with all the information kindly provided by you people, took the car to the garage. They removed the central console to find everything fine. Did the fuse checking that I had already done. All fine. Finally opened the boot and the fuse box over there. The standard fuses were fine BUT checking on the big ones -are they fuses?-, the second one from the front -40A IG. SW(B)- was melted. Difficult to get the replacement but after that the blower, air conditioner and oil temp are fine again! Thanks god. And truly grateful to the Forum and you all mates.

Good! Yes the big ones are links - fusible links. Bit worrying that one blew and not the lower rated fuses further down the line!
