MG MGF Technical - Hardtop window heating
Guys, If I connect my (new) Hardtop to the cable, my window heating doesn't work. I do have a switch in the console, however, there is no latching like my airco-switch does, and the light obviously doesn't come on. I've heard/read that you have to install the relay - So far so good. Now my dealer says I also have to install some kind of cable-tree?? I thought all cabling was build in every MGF, whether you ordered it with or without hardtop. (1999 1.8 MPi) |

Bram There is a special kit for the hardtop retro fit and I think it consists of a relay and a switch. As you say the rest of the wiring is already in place. Ted |

Bram, Your engine has to be running before the heated rear window works. DC |

Dc, lets hope thats not it. Then I would feel REALLY stupid. |

Bram, I hope that it's as simple as that. If it is, don't worry you won't be that last to make this mistake :-) DC |

certainly wasn't the first ;-) |

No, wasn't that. It seems there really is a piece of wiring missing for some reason. |

Bram You have me a bit worried so I've just been out to check my car. My light comes on (at the switch) when the engine is running and the alternator is charging. NOTE: the light comes on even when the hardtop is at home in the shed i.e. it just shows that power is going through the switch. Do you have a test meter (or a bulb and a couple of bits of wire) to see if power is getting to the connector in the hood well? The switch doesn't appear to latch, mine is a push in/release for on, push in/release for off (wish I knew the right term - is it single pole?). Can/have you tested the bulb? |

have you seen the wiring diag (courtest Dieter)? http://www.mgfcar.de/schedules/sb20.jpg |

Push on/push off non latching. Latching is done electronically. |
