MG MGF Technical - Has Anyone Tried Flat Blade Wipers?

I need to replace the wipers on my MGF and I had a hire car recently (Renault Megane) which had brilliant wipers. They were the flat-blade type and I was wondering if I could get a set to fit on the MGF.

It has standard wiper arms so all I need to is find the right length flat ones and attach them, right?

Let me know what you guys think.

been thinking about trying some myself - there are some available from this place http://www.gbdriver.co.uk/ - anyone tried them on an F?
Mike Chase

Yes
On my F - good investment even if only to stop the blades separating from the wiper resulting in a scratched windscreen. They work well.

mine made by Trico in England

You need 20" (500mm) for drivers side and 22" (550mm) for passenger side. Easy to fit
Cost $NZ63.00 the pair, not thst much dearer than the old style

Before you get worried $NZ63.00 = £24.00:-)

I'm going to get the Trico ones from an ebay shop I think. I reckon I can use the 550mm ones (Metric huh! That's 22" in old money) as they should just miss on the overlap and I don't think the standard length 20" ones are quite long enough. The seat is a bit too high!

Does anyone know if there is a problem with this?

I have 22" blades and they are much better in the normal temperature and speed ranges. If frosty they miss a bit and above 65 the drivers side tends to judder(yes I can't be bothered to adjust it, yet) and miss a bit. Well worth the extra swept area under most circumstances though.

I have now fitted the 22" Trico ones and they fit fine. The sweep is much better but there isn't quite enough springyness on the blade for the curve at the nearside edge of the windscreen so it doesn't wipe that edge perfectly. However this isn't a problem as it's only the bit right over the other side from the driver. Eveything else is improved!

I would recommend these, got 'em off ebay for £25 delivered.

The verdict is in!

Took the F on a 200km trip earlier this week during a storm. Rain did not stop and winds to 170km on the Ranges. Coming into the exposed corners of the ranges faced with a white wall of water and the water on the road was coming downhill in waves.

The new blades were so much better than the old style - did not lift, were quite and provided an excellent sweep.

So good that both the 2 litre Focus and XR8 are now equipped with them.
