MG MGF Technical - Heated Mirrors

This morning I noticed the drivers side mirror was not heating and the passenger side was fine. Does each mirror have its own fuse? or do I require a new heater part?

Any advise will be appreciated.

Olly.
O Scott

Olly,
They are on the same fuse. The most likely cause is thatyhe heater element has come away from the back of the mirror - you need to open up the mirror housing and restick the element back onto the mirror.

Jason,
Do you know the best way to remove the cover on the wing mirror? And what shoul I be looking for inside the casing?
O Scott

Olly

I haven't removed my mirror backs yet but have read several threads that stress "TAKE CARE NOT TO BREAK THE CLIPS" etc.

I'm sure somebody who has already removed them will be in touch asap OR have a quick search in archive.

Olly,
Info is in the archive, but here it is:
undo the 2 screws inside the car which hold the mirror on - careful as it will still be attached with wires (2 people help here).
Then carefully prise apart the black and the coloured parts of the mirror - I used a flat bladed screwdriver wrapped in cloth - it slightly marked the plastic, so only prise along the underside!
Once apart you will see the back of the mirror glass, and a thin heater element with 2 wires attached. The element should be stuck to the back of the glass - if it isn't then glue it back on - I used superglue.
I am of course assuming you have an older F with non electric adjustment mirrors - if you have a later model with electric adjustment then the process will be different.

I think Dieter or Stefan has hosted some words and pictures on just this subject - URLs anyone?

Look for 'Side Morrors'

Yes, side morrors! Well down the list.

I tried over the weekend to dismantle my wing mirror. I managed to remove the from the car but could not break open the casing to see the back of the mirror. When ever I tried to turn the screw driver head, covered with piece of cloth, to separate the colour coded section from the black part the plastic would would also bend.
Any suggestion on another tool or easier way to separate the mirror?

Olly,
Sorry to hear you had problems - I cannot recall using anything other than a large flat bladed screwdriver.
Maybe someone else has an idea?

Olly,

see the pictures on the site again and start at the hinge location, careful.
Did you measure the resistance of the heater ? Better do before you dismantle.

btw there's a part number of a replacement glass in the archives which is the wrong one for the standard mirror.
I bought that and its to small, cause its only for the electric motor mirror.

Anyone needs for a brand new glas with heater replacement for electric mirror ?
