MG MGF Technical - Heater

Why would the heater blow hot and then cold? It seemed only when the car was still that it blew cold but now its a bit more regular :-( Not my car but need your advice guys please x

The MGF/TF uses a very simple and basic form of heater where air is blown across a matrix through which the cars coolant can be directed, it is a simple 'tap' system controlled by the knob on the dash and if the tap is not fully open and the engine revs are low the coolant may not flow through the matrix but the air is still being blown across the 'fins', thereby cooling the now static coolant and consequently blowing cold air into the car.

Most modern cars now use an air bypass system with a constant water flow and so vary the amount of air heated rather than the amount of hat water supplied.

A rather simplified explanation but I hope it helps.

about the heater too:

I have two problems with heater in my TF:
air goes always to feet too, even if I selected knob to have air only to windscreen.

air doesn't enter in car if blower is off (my old cars had air always, to not have air I had to switch to "not take air from out-car").

Have all F/TF this problems?

The first item is a fault - probably the Bowden Cable has come undone behind the control knob.

The second item is not a fault but the way the car is designed - you get very little 'ram air' with the F/TF because (I assume) the aerodynamics of the body shape.

the first problem:
cable runs, I don't know if in the right way or not, but runs. If I turn knob I obtain a different air distribution but a few aria flow goes always to feet. Can someone control if all mgf/tf have this problem? or is it really a fault?
cnerone

Cnerone, being a TF, I sopose it's still in warranty. Go to your dealer to have this fault corrected. Mine alters the air distribution while turning the button.

mine too, it alters air distribution but a little air flow goes always to feet
cnerone

The latest TF has a different air box , this may have a bearing on the air flow through the matrix.
Dolly it sounds as though there is air trapped in the cooling system which need bleeding out.
