MG MGF Technical - Heater blower resistor pack
My heater blower now only works on speeds 2, 3 and 4 so I'm guessing (will check tonight) that one of the resistor wires in the resistor pack has burned out. I found the part number (JGM100060) from the archives along with some nice photos on Dieter's site: http://www.mgfcar.de/heater/dcp_3928.jpg My local dealer wants £23 for a new resistor pack - which I think is a bit extortionate for 3 bits of coiled wire. Has anyone had any experience of trying to repair the old one by soldering the broken coil back together? Thanks, Tim. |

That's a bit high Tim - I thought they were about half that and was about to order one for my car. |

Tell me about it! I was expecting about a tenner, for which I wouldn't bother trying to repair the old one. :( They didn't have any in stock, either. |

I have the same prob! I just thought it was my hearing going! where does that resistor pack fit? I couldnt make it out from Dieter's picture |

Tim I had a pack replaced in August (under warranty), and the car is in the garage today to have the replacement replaced (under warranty)! The dealers comment - we don't usually expect them to go so soon! Mike H |

Tim, could you make your own out of resistors rather than coils of wire??? PS - I have to admire the glorious simplicity of the resistor packs design - but it makes the asking price of 23 quid breathtaking to say the least! |

If somebody could tell me where he thing is I coud pullit out and brutalise it with my soldering iron...£23 towards other more interesting parts! |

In the left hand foot well on the right hand side - I'll just go and try to get some pics. Tim. |

Right, rather disappointingly my resistor pack seems fine after removing and testing with a multimeter. :( That means it must be the switch or the wiring... Anyway, I took a few piccies: 1 - Remove glovebox. Two screws on the rim if you open the door, just under the rubber stops and two which only need to be loosened underneath (stick your head in the footwell and look up!). 2 - Disconnect the 2 wires for the glovebox lamp and 2 for the switch. 3 - Look into the footwell towards the centre of the car and you should see this: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tim.jenner/images/MGF/Blower_Resistor/Resistor_Position1.JPG 4 - Remove 10mm bolt securing heater duct - see http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tim.jenner/images/MGF/Blower_Resistor/Air_duct_bolt.JPG 5 - Remove heater duct. Mine took a fair old tug from where the bolt was, then just pull off motor hosing at the bottom. 6 - If now stick your head right into the end of the footwell (or, if you want to cheat, hold your camera at arms length!) and look right you will see this: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tim.jenner/images/MGF/Blower_Resistor/Resistor_Position2.JPG The round thing at the bottom is the blower motor now exposed since removing the duct. The thing with the wires going into it at the top with 2 screws either side is the resistor. 7 - Remove the multiplug and the 2 screws securing the resistor. Mine looked like this: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tim.jenner/images/MGF/Blower_Resistor/Resistor.JPG 8 - Refitting is reverse of removal. ;) Tim. |

Hi Tim My resistor pack went earlier this year and I was quoted £20+ by a Rover dealer, tried Brown & Gammons, £13.97 including P&P and they were delivered in two days. Regards Paul Nightfire R966JPD |

I had the same problem, fitted 1R5 resistor to position 1. You can obtain these resistors from RS, part # 159-326 cost approx £0.70, min order of 5 + pp, toal cost approx £9.0. |

Mine had burnt through near the end so I just stretched the remaining coil a bit and soldered it in place. No problems 10 months later (touch wood) |
