MG MGF Technical - heater box leak
Does anyone know how to remove the big plastic bulkhead covers. The seal around the heater intake has failed and I've tried the usual sealant trick but it hasn't solved the problem and I need to try and get further round the back of the intake box. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Sorry, I have now been able to find some useful info in the archive, but any more up to date info would be great.

I've just 'stolen' the brief instructions of Dave R. from the Archive which are IMO up to date. Posted to http://www.mgfcar.de/heater/box_replacement.htm Courtesy to the MG Cars BBS, as usual :) HTH Dieter PS. only two pictures there currently. I hope I never have to take more pictures due to a leak at my car ;)

It is a hard job to change the airbox. Rover descirbe it in a technical buletin M7102bu. The problem with water entry into the footwell have been resolved with the introduction of a modified air box. The airbox can changes agaist the new type. The new airbox has the partno. JKQ 100180 Airbox replacement: 1. From under bonnet remove the plastic bulkhead cover to allow access to airbox . 2. Slacken only, the 2 outboard servo bracket bolts and remove the 2 inboard bolts. Lift servo out of slotted outboard locations and pull forward slightly for access. Note: Take care not to damage the brake pipes during this operation. 3. Remove the 2 vertical 10 mm bolts securing airbox to bulkhead lower. The second bolt is only posivle to reach with a very long nut-spanner. 4. From inside vehicle, remove the 4 screws securing glovebox, disconnect light and remove glovebox. 5. Form inside Remove the 10 mm nut securing heater box trunking to body and remove trunking. 6. Remove the 2 upper airbox securing bolts from bulkhead inner. 7. From under bonnet, again with servo pulled forward slightly, remove the airbox by rolling over the top of the servo. First I thought it is not posivle but by force it work. I have use the old box again, made tight by silicon.
