MG MGF Technical - Heating/Cooling

Had a quick look through the forum, and haven't seen any other posts relating to this problem so not sure if it's just me.

I have a 98 MGF and a real problem with the heating/cooling control. If I turn it towards the heat side, and it warms up, there's no going back. Ultimately I don't have any temperature control, and its just hot. The only way to stop heat coming out is to put the air conditioner on or wait for around half an hour for it to cool down.

Only variable I'm not 100% on is the open/shut air in take. When I have this pressed in, so that air is only circulating from within the car, it seems to be worse. Still not real sure about that though, haven't tested it throrougly.

Has anyone else experienced this, and or know of anything I can do to fix it?

Thanks guys (and girls).
Brian

The MGF technical archive contents some mesaages about heater control valve.

It's for sure the linkage of the cable (wire) to the control knob gear or the valve curve segment.

First impression gives..

Thanks Deiter, I'll check this out.
I mentioned this to my dealer once, and he seemed to blow it off which concerned me.

Very much appreciated.
Brian.

<blow it off >!!!!!!! Brian, you are lucky our dealers won't offer this service,LOL.

Don't forget that this heater is NOT an air-mix type, so the only control is by adjusting the amount of hot water that goes into the matrix. This is a very imprecise control which is why nearly all decent (!) cars use an air-mix heater. However with the time scale that you mention it does sound as though something is not shutting off very well, but mine is not too good either. If you use re-circulated air, it is likely to take longer to cool down, but it does depend on the outside air temp, obviously.

I've had 2 F's both with air conditioning, they both do the same, that is, you turn up the heat and it gets too hot, turn it down a bit and it goes too cold. Mine seems to vary depending on how hard the engine is working. You are forever fiddling about with the control. I've just resigned myself to having to do that. The garage says there's nothing wrong the heater control.
