MG MGF Technical - Help !!! Owned my new car for less than 24 hours

Owned my new MGF for less than 24 hours and its deader than a dead thing :-(. Im thinking its probably HGF although what makes me wonder is the water is pouring and i mean pouring out of the right hand front of the engine. This is not the first F i have owned its actually the 3rd ( Not lucky!) and have had 2 HGF before the difference is the water mixed with the oil and dribbled out this is totally different and pouring all over the alternator.
WWhat do people think is this HGF or something more sinister IE hole in the block and i have been totally conned . I have managed to drive 8 miles home in it last night my husband went out in it this morning adn said it smelt of burning and smoke was pouring our of it. he pulled over immediately although the temp gauge did not rise. Head off tomorrow and have a look i suppose Boo Hooooo

Don't rule out the possibility of something much less severe - a split coolant hose might be the cause. Hot coolant sloshing about will pick up oil from the engine surfaces, and then if it drips onto the exhaust, you'll have steam/smoke/smell.

Fingers crossed it isn't as bad as you fear...
bandit

I agree with Bandit - see if it has a burst hose before you start pulling it to bits.

when i had the hgf water was leaking out onto the floor jutt behind the driver
pd dixon

It was HGF! suprise suprise lol!
Just putting her back together now complete with new HG, Water Pump, Cam belts and tensioner. I suppose at least its done now and i know it has been done properly. Just wish i had test driven it another 8 miles.. might have had some bargining power then

Ruby,
why don't do approach the person who sold it to you and explain what happened. Most honest sellers would offer a partial refund to cover the cost of the fault with the car. May be worth trying.

cheers,

Ruby,

Did you buy the car from a garage / dealer or private?

If you bought it from a garage did you not get any warranty when you bought it.

I had a similar experience but not as severe as yours by the sound of it but the warranty i had covered it?

Hardest problem was finding someone to do it in West Yorkshire.
