MG MGF Technical - Help! Exhausts

Help - notice an annoying rattle this morning from my left hand tail pipe on the exhaust. I have an 11 year old BRG MGF. On closer inspection I found that the lining had cracked.

Can you just buy the tailpipe or do I need to get a whole new silencer?

Anyone know a good place to buy?

Cheers

If you mean the chrome trims, the answer is yes you can buy them seperately. MG Rover sold them as the trim with a short piece of angled pipe and a clamp. You will need to saw off the old one and clamp them over the existing pipe stub. Someone like Rimmer Brothers should be able to supply them. You do occassionaly see them on Ebay.

You might find it cheaper to replace the complete silencer with one from someone who has upgraded. The exhaust must be one of the longest-lasting parts of the F, so you should be on to a safe bet.

Make sure you get the F version with a right angle bend, the TF only has a 45 bend. Also ensure the tail pipes pass centrally through the bodywork; if fitted in a hurry they have been known to melt the plastic moulding.

Chris has his angles wrong! The F has a 180 degree (turns back on itself) bend and the TF 90 degrees

Thankyou. I bow to your superior knowledge

No problem Chris just trying to help. Also you can fit a TF exhaust to a MGF using an 90 degree adaptor part, these were sold by Xpart. We have one on our 1996 F. Later MGF's 2000 -2001 's were also fitted with silencers with a 90 degree bend, these cars also have two oxygen/lambda sensors and a different catalaytic converter. The MGF Trophy's were fitted with both version depending on their build date.

Guys - Thanks for your comments - I'll get on the phone and one!
