MG MGF Technical - Help with faults

HI,
Wonder if anyone could help with the following?.

Just got my first MGF, 1997,18i,63k.
Car runs fine but get a strong smell of petrol when engine is hot{but not cold] with roof up or down.
cant see any leaks?.

also have never heard radiator fan come on{although temp gauge has never gone above norm] yet engine fan comes on quite alot when warm, is this normal?.

Last one {sorry].
What do you use to 're-black' the hood?
have used proper 2 stage hood treatment, cleaner and waterproofer, but hood looks a little dull and faded.

sounds like you have a petrol leak.

check around the fuel filter and especially the clip on rubber hoses to the engine. mine jumped free one day and sprayed petrol everywhere, jour may be half way there!

Hi,
it seems that most waterproofers tend to get the hood slightly grey instead of black. A bit of "catch 22" as there is considerably effort needed to get "back to black" onto a waterproof impregnated hood.....
Anyway,be sure to use old newspapers and tape to protect paint and windows from either product! /Carl.

Dieter suggested Renovo. This includes a BLACK renovator liquid not a clear one. Top should dry to a nice matt black consistent surface that also makes water form droplets and run off. Can be preceeded by a good cleaner (their own or another) and followed by a waterproofer (but less necessary).

I USED RENOVO TO RE BLACK MY HOOD IT IS TOP STUFF ,BUY THE LARGER SIZE AND IT WILL DO 3 COATTS. LOOKS LIKE NEW NOW.
