MG MGF Technical - HELP!!!...Courtesy Light Fault
Hi....Can anyone help ?... the courtesy lights in the footwells and on the mirror are staying on constantly !!...They switch off once the alarm is activated, but when I deactivate the alarm to use the car the lights come on and wont go off again. The alarm / immobiliser is working perfectly. Any ideas or will i need a trip to the dealer tomorow am ??? |

Well....... checked the archives and found that this fault can often be fixed by stripping down and cleaning the locks. So I did this to the locks on both sides without any success. I will now have to phone and find a dealer who can look at the car tomorrow and then i will probably be told they have no parts and as its xmas it will prob take about 2 weeks. ARRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH !!!!!! |

Hi I know you are a bit further north than I am but I took my F to the dealer at 10:30, told them I had a problem, it had new lock fitted by 15:30 including having a lock delivered by their supplier. Hope yours is soon sorted. |

David, It sounds like one of your door switches is not operating properly. To test the system try the following procedure. When you have located the switch you will have to change the microswitch (not for the faint hearted!) or change the whole lock unit. Alarm System Test The alarm system can be tested by following the procedure described below: 1. Ensure doors, bonnet and the boot lid are closed. 2. Sit in the driver’s seat and close the door. NOTE: The next three actions must be carried out within 2 seconds. 3. Depress the driver’s doorsill button. 4. Switch the ignition on, off and on again. 5. Raise the driver’s doorsill button. If the test mode has been entered correctly, the horns will give a short beep and the engine immobilisation buzzer will sound. Opening either door, the bonnet or the boot lid, or operating the driver’s doorsill button, will cause the alarm LED on the dash to illuminate for approximately one second. If the LED does not illuminate, there is a system fault. The volumetric sensor can also be tested while in test mode. To test the volumetric sensor, press the unlock button on the remote handset several times. The alarm LED will illuminate for approximately 1 second each time movement is detected in the vehicle. The test mode is cancelled by switching the ignition OFF. Hope this helps and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Bruce |
