MG MGF Technical - Help, someon's scratched my car.

Last night, someone decided to run a key along the bonnet of the MGF. It's about 12" long (the scratch that is ;-) and down to the white undercoat (no metal showing). It's a flame red MGF and therefore a solid colour with no lacquer.

I've had a look through the archive and believe that I have one of the following options:

(1) Get it repaired in a paint shop (3 days off road and a few hundred quid)
(2) Get one of those mobile companies to come out, to try to "polish it out".
(3) Have a go myself - trust me, probably not the best option. either fill it in with paint or T-Cut it????
(4)Get in touch with Mark "Wax Wizard" Underwood who can sell me some wonderstuff.

What would you advise, given that the car is four years old and I'm a little skint at the moment? Which option would you take?

Regards,

Dafydd

option 1.

I had my classic car keyed, 4 foot scratch on 3 side panels. Found a garage spray shop here in Lancs with a huge local reputation (talked to auto paint supplier for recommendations). CarCraft Lytham did a fantastic job, £150+v, perfect AND it was a metallic paint that had to be hand mixed to get the colour right. Impossible to detect. I was concerned it would need a complete re-spray to keep it concours - I needn't have worried. I have sent a few people there since too.

As yours is new colour and a solid one its easy. I'd look around, avoid the big boys and get it done properly!

Or take a holiday in Lancs!!!

CarCraft are 'enthusiast petrol heads'. They designed the Venom kit car and raced it successfully for years.
My perfectionist mate got his Porsche 911 resprayed there and took his 1 week old Golf VR6 there after that was keyed etc etc.

I dont think all is lost, i had a bird Cr*p on the bonnett when i bought the car which had eaten through the painti had it resprayed for £125 at a local garage in Swindon and they did a fantastic job..

Mark underwood has been taken out of business by www.zymol.co.uk as i tried to get hold of him, and they explained the situation to me.

i would highly recommend zymol products, slightly on the expensive side to start with but incredible results..

I think i may have asked you this questions before Ian, but do you have a number and address for carcraft?

Dafydd,

Bad Luck mate, did this happen on Saturday Night?

Someone keyed my passenger door as well, full length of door, fortunately didn't touch any other panels.

Going to try and get a couple of quotes to repair today.

BRG, metallic, with laquer.

(mine's down to the black undercoat, because its a brand new door!!!)

MG Rover just quoted me £85 to respray door.

Which I don't think is too bad.
