MG MGF Technical - HG Unit

My passenger side has reduded dramatically in height over a couple of days. Because of the speed of this reduction, I gather my HG unit has gone? How much will it be for this to be replaced?
Bob

Parts cost is 102 quid if I recall right.
Add 1 hour works in maximim (IMO) to refit and adjust the rideheight.

Not vital, but I would recommend a new 4-wheel alignment if your car had none in the last 12 month.

Thankyou Dieter. In your opinion, do you think that this would be the main cause of my problem? The dealer has told me (without looking at it) that it may just need 'pumping up'. But, if the ride height was lost so suddenly, is this likely?

Not sure, but if there is a fast drop then there should be any problem. May be the leak appears only at higher pressure ?

I would in any way check the gaiters of the HG Units at first at the dropped side.
Easy works after you removed the wheels.
Press with two fingers the gaiter upwards. If there is a leak in a unit then a small amount of green fluid should get out of the 1mm drain hole in the lower gaiter/dust cover.
Another case could be a loose HG pipe connection direct at the units or at the interconnections under the car or in the bonnet.

I have no idea or experiance about damaged gas spheres (upper independent at each unit). I recall there was a process to check the disconnected Unit with high pressure only provided by the official MMG R used pump. Written anywhere in the workshop manual.

Thanks again Dieter. Unfortunately, I am no mechanic, so it is booked in at a MG dealer tomorrow morning. At least I have a little more knowledge to challenge them with now. Thankyou.

Well, just dropped off my baby to the dealer. Unfortunately, they have one of the highest speed bumps known to man and, due to the nature of my problem, the bottom grounded all the way over it (I took it slow). So, Jesus knows what that has done to it!

:-(

Just got a phone call from the dealer. Does require a new HG unit (or displacer unit as he called it). £185 inc VAT and fitting.

Oh well...
