MG MGF Technical - HGF????
I topped up the oil in my R reg VVC (72,ooo miles and had it's big service ) recently and noticed a spot of 'mayo' on my dipstick ( so to speak )..... The coolant is clear... no erruptions of steam... No funny smells...although I am starting to imagine them...I think The oil temp gauge seems to be stuck just below 80.... Could this be my HGF coming ? Or am I just looking too hard for signs of it ? Can I get in first and stop it happening. reassurance ( or otherwise ) appreciated. Grahame |

if your journey profile is many short trips (less than 10 miles) then given time of year and recent weather I'd hope it's just condensation.... |

Graeme, Is the coolant level unchanged? This is the key. If you have no water loss, then that's your reassurance. As David says, it is probably just a bit of condensation which will clear after a good blast. Dave |

Thanks David I was winding myself up for the worst case scenario.. Grahame |

Dave coolant seems to stay topped up.... I must say I do like the idea of clearing it up with a good blast. I was out yesterday weaving around the hills of Derbyshire ( clear roads..snow everywhere else ) Perhaps in the interest of car care I should do this more often ? Grahame |

yes if you are in Sheffield a good thrash out past Ladybower reservoir will do you and the car good... provided you have run gently-ish for at least 20 mins to get it up to op temp first... |

and be carefull on the ice! Will |

Thanks for the advice...driving the car in Derbyshire makes me very happy indeed. It's nice to know that it's a mutually rewarding experience. I'll avoid the ice Will ! I always prefer to face the direction I'm travelling in ! Grahame |
