MG MGF Technical - HGF
Does HGF mean engine out for the replacement? and what is the cost of the parts needed? My 1998 VVC has just gone bang! Thanks in advance... Chris. |

From £450 upwards depending on how bad things are. |

Sorry wrong answer, a garage would charge £450 for changing it. Parts cost around £26 for uprated gasket depends on what else is required. as for engine out I believe it can be done it situ. Mike |

Chris - I posted on the other thread that you added to. |

The job is done in situ and can cost anywhere in the region of £450, to a new engine depending on the damage. MGR quoted me £750 as long as the head didnt need skimming!! Did the job myself and it took two days and I'm a mechanic (aircraft mind)fiddley as hell. |

P.S. All work carried out at MGROVER Dealership Garage. Is this expensive or about right? I would be interested to hear of other recent HGF costs carried out at a dealership? |

>Specialist Cylinder Head Inspection £70 Sounds a bit strange 4me. I always though this is a 5 minutes job with help of a good 20 inch steel ruler, set of thickness gauge and good eyes. Please correct me if I'm wrong. What else could mean _inspection_ ? Grinding the head is another case of costs though. |

On my invoice it is billed with the note "SUB" This stands for "SUBLET", i guess it may mean that it was checked over and passed by a specialist from MG Rover ? For a warranty to be approved possibly? |
Mike |
>>i guess it may mean that it was checked over and passed by a specialist I'd have thought it was a hardness test and yes sent out to a company that does this. |
