Apologies if this has been mentioned before ..

Another 'band wagon' jumper? And this time to make money out of our misfortunes?

Nope, someone who, maybe, will get MGR to wake up and smell the coffee.

MGR's directors have awarded themselves a £13million trust fund - that should go some way to compensating those that have had to fork out £100,s for a problem that is ocurring far too often to be 'unlucky'.

Due to a private email I received, I'd like to point out that the limit of my involvement in this matter was to report this link I read on a Caterham BBS. I thought it might be of interest.

I have nothing to do with the action group itself or any other plans to bring down the Rover group..

The burden of responsibility on a car over three years old is not that of MG Rover.
The owner MUST take it.
Far too many F's are never checked regularly and the cars are hurried over speed humps damaging pipes. Engines are modified to deliver more power than original output.
All these things contribute to the failure of the head gasket, which if not fitted would destroy any engine totally. It is a failsafe device.

The compensation culture in this country is sickening. Stop making other people pay for your mistakes.

Tony,
Why MUST :-
"The burden of responsibility on a car over three years old is not that of MG Rover.
The owner MUST take it"

Where's the magic 3 years come from? Why 3? Why not 6 years, or 5 minutes?

This isn't an issue of "the compensation culture"
Simply an issue of why should owners pay up for the "in service" or "field" development of a product - when there is clearly a problem.

As a matter of interest, have you had HGF? Of course I hope you and every other owner does not.
If and when you do, you'll quickly get narked off by people coming onto this board saying things like
"If you check the reservoir regularly it won't happen"
"Don't thrash it until the oil's warm"
"Get it serviced properly"
"drive it slow over speedhumps" (that's the best I've heard so far...)
"you all modify your cars, what do you expect"
"stop bleating - it's too old to be MGR's responsibility"
And I bet you'll try and get some "goodwill" or "assistance" from MGR toward the repair costs. If you don't, you're daft!

Getting MGR to pay for our problems won't put up your house or car insurance, it won't mean that kiddies playgrounds will have to close for fear of litigation, nor that Councils will go "bust" due to trip claims.
It may mean that MGR will develop their/a next product properly before releasing it. It may mean that your next F (or whatever) may cost a bit more.
I'd be happy to pay a bit more for a product that works properly for a reasonable period of time (more than 3 years in my book) than to pay for a repair following and event which was certainly not my fault, but which has a frequency of occurrence above that deemed to be normal or acceptable.

You are not the BBS moral police (as others have tried before you). If what we are doing does not affect you, then it doesn't affect you!

It doesn't affect me BUT I am entitled to an opinion which you should respect as I respect yours.
I am able to pay for a HGF if it occurs. Perhaps as I live well within my means that is the difference!

>> "I am able to pay for a HGF if it occurs. Perhaps as I live well within my means that is the difference!"

So you are also able to pay for repair of a leaky roof, electrical rewiring because of undefined power drain, broken wiper mechanims, broken wiper motors, faulty heating, and many more shortcomings to the car.

So it is your opinion that possible misfortunes should be added to the extend of our total means? get outta here. According to you,the available budget to spend should take into account all of the above. IMO, a budget should only include costs for regular service intervals and insurance.

I would agree in the case I´d buy a second hand Porsche or alike, for which I know I won´t be able to pay regular service and possible repair or insurance.

Tony,
I make no assumptions if you can or cannot afford to repair your car. If you live your life paying for everything and never complaining that is, of course, your choice and none of my business.
However, just because you may be able to afford to pay for everything without a blink, great. But don't sit and snear at us who believe in fighting for our rights (as we see them).

Equally, if I live within or whithout my means is my choice and cock all of your business.

I am a fighter, it's got nothing to do with my ability to pay, more my unwillingness to roll over and be trampled on.
Wealth is fantastic, but it can lead to one becoming a soft touch - ridden over by smiley salesmen or service personnel who make jestures to your back when it's turned.

If you wish to make racist jibes innuendo and at the likes of DC and myself, then you are not welcome here.

You are of course, welcome to express an opinion

Tony im'e affraid your opinion is calling me/us irresponsible F owners, who are racing over speed bumps (NOT),damaging our brake pipes and in your eyes not checking for damage so an HGF is our fault, also saying i don't check regularly, Wrong do i check car regular thanks, thats without the yearly mot check, you make comments like you have above and you will get flack back, you are of course entitled to your opinion, but do not point fingers to "all" who have F's over 3 years old, and Yes im'e Welsh and proud of it, and i have no problem with the English at all, Dave
