MG MGF Technical - HGF-anywhere good in Warwickshire to get it fixed?

This is posted on behalf of a friend who does not have regular internet access.

She has an N-reg MGF that has had a few problems with a suspected HGF.

2 years ago the car had a recon rad fitted after the original blew and the car got hot. However, no obvious damage and the car was fine for 2 yrs.

Last week the car got hot again and she took it back to the garage who prescribed yet another radiator. However after 60 miles the car has got hot again and apparently there is was a graunchy/whining noise from the engine. I advised sounds like HGF and sure enough there is mayonaise under the oil filler cap.

Apparently and annoyingly the garage in question did not tell her to be careful or to look for hot running/loss of power which seems a bit odd on an engine as fragile as an MGF.

Presumably she is looking at a new gasket at best and possibly a big rebuild at worse...can anyone recommend a decent specialist in the Warwickshire/Midlands area or someone who might be able to rebuild the top end using the beefed up Land Rover parts?

Any help gratefully recieved!

Thanks

Ditto! But they're very busy at the moment - the BTCC season is upon us! But that said, it is well worth your while getting your car in there if you can.

If you don't mind taking your car further afield, then Brown and Gammons, MGF Centre and Mike Satur could also be worth talking to.

Christina,
I live in Rugby and have just had HGF on my 2000 vvc. I have been quoted the following:

Trinity Motors in Hinkley 01455 622220 estimated between £500 and £700 dependant on the amount of work. They said they cold start the work imediately.

Techspeed in Leamington estimated at £800. As stated above they are very busy and may not be able to fit you in.

Rugby Car Care Centre who say they are MG/Rover specialist in Sommers Road Rugby 01788 562162.They quoted about £600 and say they have done many HGF repairs on K Series units. They will do the job next week. They did fix my F before christmas when the MAP sensor failed all at the going rate quoted elsewhere.

I am looking at one or two other options and will have to make up my mind on Thursday. I currently favour the Rugby outfit as they are close and they did a good job with the MAP sensor.

Hi everyone!

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I was in touch with Tech Speed today and as I type! my wee volcano as I call it, (official name of colour!) I'm such a girl! is in their good hands! I arranged for my emergency break down to collect the car to convey to garage and the guy actually started the engine against my wishes! The engine started fine and made no adverse noises which the guy said, was a good thing! I'll get the prognosis on Friday. Will keep you posted. I really appreciate your help! Thanks.
