MG MGF Technical - Hinge Pins (again)
Come on folks, someone must know how to replace the door hinge pins!!Is there a tool or is it back to the big hammer? |

Am I the only one who's done this then? The pins are held in with a single circlip per hinge. A small screwdriver is sufficient to unhook it without damaging it. Be careful not to ping it too far as they are a bu**er to find again. The pin then knocks out. And it's just as easy to put back together. I suggest using long nosed pliers to refit the circlip. The top hinge on my drivers door was very worn and equates to about 10mm movement at the lock. When I bought the car, the door had actually rubbed the paint off the sill! The door is fixed now. All I've got to do is paint the sill 'cos touch-up paint doesn't look that pretty! |

Wrap a hankerchief around them first to catch them as they spring out. As Richard says they are a bugger to find! |

Marc, Shropshire. Sounds brutal, but if your hinge pins are not to far gone, open the door with the window down, grab hold of it top and bottom and flex the door until it fits. I did this 12 months ago on her indoors 98F and it has'nt played up since. |

Paul Have you considered buying a workshop manual? available from your MGR Dealer or by post from Brown & Gammon. Also available in a CD version from B&G or MGOC Sales. |

btw, not sure wether it reffers to the same pin, I think so. The *rolled pin* got changed in the mid of 1997 to one made from stainless steel, part No. BDM100050. Worth to get a new ones in any way. Regards Dieter HEF-MG96 |
