MG MGF Technical - Hissing Noise
Hello I am not sure if my MGF has always made this noise and I just hadn’t noticed, but ever since I fitted an amp in the boot and ran the wires through the engine bay whenever I am in a low gear and get about 2.5K revs or higher, I can hear a hissing noise from the engine, It kind of sounds like a turbo does, could I have accidentally knocked something? Very odd, any ideas? James |

Did you create a hole from the cockpit to the engine bay to run the wires? The noise could be coming from there. Sam |

Sam No I used holes that were already there(just made holes in the grommits) and I dont think it sounds like a trim noise. James |

Hi, I also get this on my 1.8 MPI from about 3.5k upwards when accelerating hard. I have mentioned it to people who seem to think it is nothing to worry about but an still intrigued as to what it is. As a side note I have only noticed it since I had HGF. Chris |

My old F did this as the revs passed through around 3500 - 4000. It was sort of a "pffffizzzzz" sound - Short duration, sounded as though some sort of gas was being vented in the engine. I think the guys on here identified it as just being the catalytic converter releasing gases. Anyway, it never caused a problem, and disappeared after about a week, never to return. Diggers |

I have a similar "pfffzzzzzz" sound when accelerating hard, probly about 4500-5000 revs, started at weekend after I had a flexible exhaust connection (or some such thing) replaced under warranty... |

Hi, I also had/have one of those, and it was identified as being the braiding round the exhaust flexi-pipe becoming detached and making the humming sound at certain revs. This isn't the source of my rattle in the other post though! Leigh |
